Rebekah Hill’s career journey and the importance of female leadership in recruitment

4 minute read

Rebekah Hill is the Senior Division Director of Global Communications and head of Global Delivery here at Meet. Having joined the business back in 2012, Rebekah has become an invaluable team member and is an excellent role model and leader.

Below we’ve outlined her career journey, including a relocation to New York, biggest milestones and lessons, and ultimately what led her to stay with the business for 13+ years.

Why Rebekah joined Meet and is still here 13+ years later

Rebekah joined Meet back in 2012 as a university graduate stepping into the corporate world for the first time. Back then, she had no idea about the career journey she was about to embark on and the impact it would have on her both personally and professionally.

What’s kept her here all these years is the combination of opportunity, growth, reward, and people. Meet has always been a place where, if you are ambitious and willing to work hard, you can genuinely shape your own career. Early on, she was given responsibility, autonomy, and the chance to directly impact her own success and earnings, which was incredibly motivating.

But more than anything, it’s been the people. I’ve had the privilege of learning from some amazing leaders over the years, many of whom challenged me, supported me, and helped shape the leader I am today. That combination of opportunity and mentorship is rare, and it’s a huge part of why I’ve stayed and continued to grow here.

Relocating from London to New York

When she was 25, Rebekah was given the chance to relocate to New York as part of Meet’s US expansion. It was a huge personal and professional leap, and one that has influenced so much of who she is today.

The move challenged her in the best possible way – forcing her to grow quickly, take on more ownership and think bigger. It also taught her resilience, independence, and adaptability. As well as building a new life and furthering her career in one of the world’s most vibrant cities, it opened her eyes to the scale of opportunity in the US market and the impact our business could have there.

I feel very fortunate to have lived and worked in two of the best cities in the world: London and New York!

Biggest milestones and lessons

Rebekah counts her relocation to New York as one of her biggest professional milestones as it ended up shaping the most significant part of her career so far. Helping grow the US business over her decade living there is something she’s incredibly proud of.

Relocating back to London recently was also a meaningful milestone for her. After ten years away, returning felt like a full-circle moment where she could bring everything she learned in the US back to her new chapter in London.

In terms of lessons, Rebekah has learned that careers are rarely linear and that growth comes from taking risks, saying yes before you feel completely ready, and being open to change.

I’ve also learned the importance of relationships with colleagues, clients, candidates, and teams. Recruitment is a people business at its core, and the ability to build trust, show empathy, and lead with integrity matters just as much as commercial success.”

The significance of female leadership in a high-performing culture

Female leadership plays an incredibly important role in creating a balanced, inclusive, and high-performing culture. Representation matters, not only in terms of visibility, but in how decisions are made, how teams are supported, and how success is defined.

When Rebekah joined Meet, both the office and the recruitment industry more broadly were very male-dominatedShe’s found that, over the years, it’s been amazing to see the female population grow and would like to think she played a part in hiring, developing, and supporting women across the business.

High-performance cultures thrive when there is diversity of thought, leadership style, and perspective. Female leaders often bring a different lens to conversations around development, communication, collaboration, and empathy – all of which are critical to building strong teams.

Building long-term careers at Meet

Like Rebekah, many people have built long-term careers at Meet because there is so much opportunity here. The market we operate in is exciting, our reputation is strong, and the business has always encouraged people to grow without placing limits on what they can achieve.

For ambitious people, that’s incredibly powerful. There is the opportunity to progress, to earn well, to relocate, to lead teams, to build something meaningful, and to continuously challenge yourself.

But beyond the opportunity and rewards, it comes back to the people and the culture. Meet has always had a strong sense of community. You work hard, but you are surrounded by people who want to see you succeed. That combination of ambition, support, and culture is what makes people stay and build careers here.

Advice to women aspiring to be leaders

Rebekah’s advice to aspiring women leaders would be to back yourself, even when you don’t feel completely ready. Many women wait until they feel 100% qualified before putting themselves forward, whereas leadership often requires stepping into discomfort and learning as you go.

Don’t be afraid to use your voice, ask questions & challenge ideas! Confidence grows through experience, but it also grows by putting yourself in situations that stretch you.

I would also say: find people who will support and advocate for you but make sure you advocate for yourself too. Be clear about your ambitions, ask for feedback, and be open to learning from both successes and setbacks.

Leadership does not have to look one specific way. You don’t need to change who you are to become a leader. The best leaders I’ve worked with are authentic, self-aware, resilient, and genuinely invested in the people around them. So, my advice would be to lead in a way that feels true to you.

Meet’s support through pregnancy and maternity leave planning

Rebekah has found Meet incredibly supportive throughout her pregnancy and maternity leave planning. Everything was organized early, which allowed her to feel calm, prepared, and in control during a really important life transition.

What I’ve appreciated most is that I’ve felt listened to. The business has taken the time to understand how I wanted my business units to be managed in my absence, and we started planning well in advance to make sure there was structure, clarity, and support in place.

Going into maternity leave, I know that I’m in safe hands! It’s allowed me to step away with confidence, knowing that the teams, customers, and business areas I care about are being well looked after!
