A growing medical device company based in the Los Angeles area is hiring a Senior Director of Software Engineering to lead accelerated software development and modernization across their digital and device software portfolio. This role will define engineering strategy, drive execution excellence, and introduce AI-assisted development practices—while maintaining the highest standards for safety, security, and regulatory compliance in healthcare.
Responsibilities:
- Own software and firmware engineering strategy and delivery across multiple products and platforms.
- Lead adoption of AI-assisted engineering tools to improve development speed, quality, and test automation.
- Implement agentic AI workflows for: Routine defect remediation, Automated unit, integration, and regression testing, Code refactoring and documentation.
- Ensure all software meets FDA SaMD, HIPAA, SOC 2, and HITRUST requirements.
- Oversee architecture, integration, and quality across internal teams and external partners.
- Partner closely with Product, Design, Quality, Regulatory, and Security teams.
- Build, mentor, and scale high-performing engineering leaders and teams.
- Act as the executive escalation point for complex technical, platform, and security issues.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science (advanced degree preferred) and 15+ years of software engineering experience with progressive leadership responsibility.
- 7+ years of people management experience and demonstrated success leading transformational engineering initiatives in fast-moving, Agile environments.
- Experience overseeing complex, multi-platform systems spanning cloud, on-premise, and embedded firmware.
- Proven success leading software product development in highly governed or compliance-driven environments (e.g., healthcare, finance, enterprise SaaS, data privacy–regulated domains).
- Experience building or operating FDA-regulated Software as a Medical Device (SaMD) and familiarity with healthcare interoperability and device-cloud ecosystems is highly desirable.
- Experience deploying AI-assisted software development tools and scaling AI-assisted development.
- Deep experience building and operating cloud-native platforms, preferably on AWS.
- Strong understanding of scalable SaaS architectures, DevOps, CI/CD, and infrastructure-as-code.
- Familiarity with secure product development practices (e.g., OWASP Top 10).
- Understanding of authentication protocols (OAuth, SAML, etc.) and encryption practices.
- Knowledge of relevant regulatory requirements (e.g., HIPAA, GDPR, SOC 2).
- Strong collaboration and communication skills at the executive level.
