The Meet Passport: Chris’ Trip to New York

2+ minutes

Chris Warman heads up our Delivery team in the London office. When he hit four years of tenure at Meet Life Sciences, he was awarded the Meet Passport for his strong dedication and many contributions to the company This meant one fully funded trip – including flights, accommodation and meal allowances – to any of our other office locations.

Chris chose to work in the New York office for a week before heading to Boston for a week’s holiday with his wife. By combining this award with a personal holiday, the company helped to facilitate a trip that was already planned while offering the chance to meet colleagues from overseas.

Since his return from the Stateswe’ve caught up with him to hear his highlights and overall thoughts.

Why did you choose to visit New York?

Meet has offices in London, New York, San Francisco, San Diego and Raleigh – so we were interested in the reason behind Chris’ choice.

Chris gave two reasons. Firstly, it was a great opportunity to meet the delivery team that’s based in New York, and a chance to spend time working with his manager and Senior Division Director Rebekah Hill who heads up global delivery.

It also meant he could extend a personal trip he was planning. Meet kindly enabled me to tag a visit to Boston onto my main trip of meeting up with my wife and visiting her home city.

What were your highlights from the New York office?

As well as meeting colleagues he’d only spoken to virtually, Chris said he really enjoyed noting the cultural differences in the New York office vs back home in London. “There was a different vibe and different culture ... but with the same positive and friendly people Meet is known for hiring. Everyone was really friendly and approachable” .

Another highlight was meeting up with Alfie Browning, a contract recruiter who used to work and live in London but decided to move to New York a couple of years ago. Chris mentioned, “it was great catching up because I hadn’t seen him for a while.

One final highlight (or lowlight) was that, unlike in London, “[people in the New York office] clap on the beat to celebrate ALL deal songs. It’s terrible!”

How did you spend the week in New York?

Although Chris didn’t have a huge amount of time for sightseeing during the daytime as he was busy collaborating and working in the office Monday to Thursday, he did spend one day traveling to Brooklyn for an ice hockey game.

For him, it was his stand-out moment of the week. “Going to see the New York Islanders was really cool, although I didn’t realize that getting to Long Island is practically like going halfway back to London!”

He also had the chance to try out some local food and drinks. Thanks to the team, he was introduced to Fireball and pizza from L’Industrie Pizzeria

Final thoughts

Overall, Chris thoroughly enjoyed making the most out of his Meet Passport trip as well as his time over in Boston. He concluded that “meeting all the New York lot was the most memorable part of the experience.
