Our client operates within the life sciences sector, focusing on biomaterials and biologics designed for applications across orthopedics, sports medicine, dental, and wound care markets. They are entering an exciting period of expansion and are seeking a VP of Finance to oversee and scale their finance and accounting functions, ensuring the organization is prepared for future growth and IPO readiness.
Role Summary
As the VP of Finance, you will be a key member of the executive leadership team, partnering closely with the CEO to develop and implement the company's financial strategy. You will be responsible for managing financial operations, reporting, controls, and planning, playing a crucial part in positioning the business for its next chapter. This role involves leading a lean finance team, establishing scalable systems, and ensuring compliance with industry standards in a highly regulated environment. It is an onsite position based in Richmond and Berkeley, with substantial interaction across the organization.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and execute the company’s financial strategy aligned with overall business goals.
- Prepare the organization for IPO by strengthening financials, controls, and governance.
- Lead end-to-end financial planning, forecasting, and budgeting processes.
- Strengthen compliant financial practices in accordance with industry standards.
- Build scalable financial systems and integrate new technology platforms.
- Lead and nurture a high-performing finance and accounting team.
- Collaborate with operational, regulatory, and supply chain teams to align financial and strategic objectives.
- Manage external audits, tax filings, and the relationship with auditors.
- Provide financial insights and recommendations for strategic decisions such as acquisitions or partnerships.
- Support investor relations, board reporting, and long-term growth initiatives.
Experience & Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance or Accounting; MBA preferred.
- CPA certification is required.
- Minimum of 12 years of progressive finance and accounting experience, including leadership roles.
- Experience in regulated industries such as biotech, med-tech, or biologics.
- Knowledge of regulatory compliance environments, including FDA, EMA, GAAP, IFRS, SOX, and J-SOX.
- Proven track record in preparing companies for public offering and working with external auditors.
- Experience partnering with VC or PE-backed companies, including investor reporting.
- Previous experience in a Big 4 or Tier 2 accounting firm is advantageous.
- Strong strategic, operational, and execution capabilities.
Salary
This role offers a base salary between $250,000 and $300,000, depending on experience, plus an incentive plan.
