Meet Life Sciences is representing a cutting-edge biotech company based in San Diego, CA that is developing antisense oligonucleotide (ASO) therapeutics to precisely modulate gene expression. Using a research-driven platform that integrates RNA biology, chemistry, and preclinical development, our client designs targeted drug candidates for diseases with high unmet need. Their mission is to advance innovative RNA-based medicines with the potential for meaningful, durable patient impact. They are currently seeking a:
Scientist – Antisense Therapeutics / Neuroscience
About the Role
Our client is seeking a highly motivated Scientist with expertise in neuroscience, antisense oligonucleotide (ASO) therapeutics, and CNS delivery to join their growing R&D team. The successful candidate will drive discovery and preclinical development of RNA-based therapies for neurological disorders.
In this role, you will play a key part in early drug discovery through target identification, experimental design, development of disease models, and optimization of ASO delivery to the central nervous system (CNS) for neurological diseases. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute directly to the development of transformative treatments for patients with unmet medical needs.
Key Responsibilities
• Design, execute, and interpret studies evaluating antisense oligonucleotides in neurodegenerative and neurodevelopmental disease models
• Develop and characterize in vitro and in vivo CNS models for target validation and efficacy testing
• Collaborate with medicinal chemistry and biology teams to optimize ASO delivery routes to the CNS, including intrathecal, intracerebroventricular, and systemic delivery
• Work cross-functionally with biology and pharmacology teams to integrate findings and guide project direction
• Maintain accurate documentation and present data in internal and external meetings
• Stay current with emerging advancements in RNA therapeutics, CNS biology, and drug delivery technologies
Qualifications
• Ph.D. in Neuroscience, Molecular Biology, or a related discipline, or M.S. in Neuroscience with 5+ years of relevant industry experience
• Experience in neurological or neuromuscular disease research
• Strong background in neuroscience and CNS disease models
• Hands-on experience in small animal handling and drug administration via IT, ISV, IP, IV, and SC injections
• Familiarity with rodent behavioral models and neuroanatomical techniques
• Experience with antisense oligonucleotides, siRNA, or related RNA-based modalities preferred
• Experience in biotech or pharmaceutical R&D preferred
• Experience with in vivo CNS delivery techniques and PK/PD analysis preferred
• Proficiency with molecular and cellular assays (qPCR, Western blot, immunohistochemistry, microscopy, etc.)
• Excellent communication, organization, and problem-solving skills
