Job Summary
A clinical-stage biotechnology company focused on developing treatments for rare diseases is looking for a someone to lead medical communications activities within its Medical Affairs function. They are a US-based company that is expanding it's presence into Europe.
The role oversees publication strategy, medical education initiatives, training programs, and congress participation, while also developing standardised responses for medical information requests. The role ensures that all scientific communications are accurate, compliant, and aligned with organisational strategy, maintaining strong credibility with patients, healthcare professionals, and the wider scientific community.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the development and management of publication strategies, medical education initiatives, congress participation, and medical information response documents to support Medical Affairs and broader scientific objectives.
- Manage the European publications process and ensure alignment with global publication strategy and good publication practice guidelines.
- Create internal scientific communication materials to support Medical Affairs training and organisational goals.
- Develop external scientific content and medical communication materials in the rare diseases space.
- Oversee planning and execution of medical activities at European and national scientific conferences, including educational symposia, materials, logistics, and staffing.
- Develop standardised medical information response documents tailored to European regulatory and operational requirements while aligning with global Medical Affairs.
- Establish and maintain functional processes, standards, and policies related to medical communications activities.
- Ensure all activities comply with corporate policies and healthcare regulations, including interactions related to clinical research, scientific exchange, and responses to unsolicited medical information requests.
Qualifications
- Advanced scientific or medical degree (e.g., PhD, PharmD, or MD) with significant experience in Medical Affairs and extensive experience in the biotechnology or pharmaceutical industry.
- Demonstrated leadership in medical communications and the ability to collaborate effectively across cross-functional teams.
- Product launch experience; experience in rare diseases or orphan drugs is advantageous.
- Strong understanding of regulatory and compliance requirements within Medical Affairs.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, organisational, and written skills.
- Proven ability to manage multiple priorities, work independently in a fast-paced environment, and contribute to strategic problem solving.
- Willingness to travel within Europe and internationally as required.
