As the engineering organization continues to scale, they're looking for an experienced Engineering Manager to lead a team of approximately 10 engineers in New York City.
This is a player-coach position, with roughly 70% people leadership and 30% hands-on technical involvement. You'll be responsible for building and developing a high-performing engineering team while remaining closely involved in architecture, technical decisions, and delivery.
This is an opportunity to join a high-growth company at a pivotal stage and play a meaningful role in shaping its engineering organization.
What You'll Do
Lead & Develop a High-Performing Engineering Team
-
Manage, mentor, and develop a team of approximately 10 software engineers.
-
Conduct regular 1:1s, performance reviews, and career development discussions.
-
Establish clear growth plans and support engineers in progressing into senior and leadership positions.
-
Own hiring efforts, including defining requirements, conducting interviews, assessing technical capabilities, and attracting top engineering talent.
-
Foster a culture of ownership, collaboration, accountability, and engineering excellence.
Drive Technical Delivery & Execution
-
Own engineering delivery, ensuring projects are appropriately scoped, prioritized, and executed efficiently.
-
Partner closely with Product, Clinical, and Customer-facing teams to translate complex healthcare workflows into technical requirements and product roadmaps.
-
Collaborate with enterprise customers and technical stakeholders on integrations, implementation planning, and deployments.
-
Oversee the reliability and performance of production systems, including incident management, on-call processes, and postmortem improvements.
-
Balance speed, scalability, and technical quality to deliver reliable solutions.
Remain Hands-On Technically
-
Participate in architecture discussions, system design reviews, and technical decision-making.
-
Review code and guide engineers through complex technical challenges.
-
Contribute directly through prototyping, debugging, and internal tooling when needed.
-
Help the team make thoughtful trade-offs around system performance, reliability, and scalability.
Help Scale the Engineering Organization
-
Establish and continuously improve engineering processes, standards, and best practices.
-
Partner with senior leadership on hiring plans, team structure, and organizational growth.
-
Help build scalable engineering foundations as the company expands.
-
Play an active role in shaping the team's technical culture and long-term direction.
What We're Looking For
-
8+ years of software engineering experience, including at least 2 years in an Engineering Manager role with direct responsibility for hiring, performance management, and career development.
-
Strong technical expertise in backend engineering and/or infrastructure, including APIs, integrations, data pipelines, distributed systems, and cloud infrastructure.
-
Demonstrated experience making architectural decisions and building, deploying, and maintaining production systems at scale.
-
A hands-on technical background with the ability to participate meaningfully in system design discussions and code reviews.
-
Proven success mentoring engineers, building high-performing teams, and developing technical talent into senior or leadership roles.
-
Strong execution and delivery skills, with the ability to prioritize effectively, manage trade-offs, and maintain engineering quality.
-
Experience working in technically complex environments, such as high-growth startups, scale-ups, large technology companies, financial technology firms, or organizations with significant cloud infrastructure.
-
Comfortable operating in a fast-paced, evolving environment where processes and structures are still being developed.

Excellent communication and cross-functional collaboration skills.
Healthcare industry experience is a plus, but not required.
