Director, Project Management & Operations (Med Comms)
We’re seeking a Director of Project Management & Operations to play a pivotal role in building and scaling a growing Medical Communications division within a highly respected consultancy environment.
This is a foundational leadership hire—ideal for a seasoned Med Comms professional who thrives behind the scenes, building infrastructure, optimizing delivery, and driving financial performance. What You’ll Be Responsible For
- Build and scale operations: Establish and manage the core workflows that define how Med Comms work is delivered—spanning project execution, resourcing, and cross-functional collaboration
- Own financial performance: Lead budgeting, pricing models, and SOW development while maintaining accountability for portfolio profitability and margin performance
- Drive forecasting & reporting: Provide leadership with real-time insights into revenue, utilization, and financial health across all projects
- Ensure flawless delivery: Oversee execution across all deliverables—ensuring timelines, budgets, and quality standards are consistently met
- Lead resource management: Align team capacity with business demand, balancing internal teams and freelancers to maximize efficiency
- Oversee procurement alignment: Ensure financial and operational processes align with pharma/biotech client procurement requirements for seamless project execution
What We’re Looking For
- 8+ years in Med Comms, with deep experience in project management, operations, or delivery leadership roles
- Strong understanding of Med Comms deliverables (scientific platforms, KOL engagement, congress activity, digital education, etc.)
- Proven success managing multi-million-dollar portfolios, with ownership over margin, utilization, and complex SOWs
- Demonstrated ability to build or optimize operational systems within an agency environment
- Expertise in project management and financial tools (e.g., Smartsheet or similar platforms)
- A proactive, solutions-oriented mindset with the ability to anticipate challenges and adjust resources accordingly
- Comfortable operating autonomously as a bridge between medical teams and financial leadership
