The opportunity (Role summary)
As the Director of Sensor Research, you will lead a multidisciplinary scientific organization dedicated to developing next-generation biosensing technologies. You’ll collaborate closely with R&D teams, guide long-term technology roadmaps, and mentor a team of sensor scientists and engineers. This role is based on-site in San Diego, with a travel requirement of approximately 15-25% to support cross-functional initiatives and industry engagement.
Key responsibilities
- Lead sensing technology innovation and develop strategic scientific initiatives aligned with long-term product goals.
- Define and execute sensor technology roadmaps, integrating insights from industry and academia across both in-vitro and in-vivo sensing paradigms.
- Provide technical leadership on measuring biomarkers in interstitial fluid, ensuring sound scientific and experimental rigor.
- Manage, mentor, and develop a high-performing team of sensor scientists and engineers, fostering a collaborative environment of innovation and continuous learning.
- Oversee daily team operations, including resource planning, budgeting, and project prioritization, ensuring deliverables meet strategic objectives.
- Communicate effectively across teams and present complex scientific concepts to stakeholders, serving as a role model for leadership and integrity.
What you’ll bring
- Proven experience leading scientific teams focused on biosensing or related fields like electrochemical, voltametric, or potentiometric sensing.
- Deep expertise in sensor development, fabrication, measurement techniques, and integration within medical device systems.
- Track record of creating and executing technology roadmaps, with success in advancing sensor technologies from concept to product implementation.
- Strong leadership and interpersonal skills, with the ability to motivate teams and manage multiple priorities.
- Excellent communication skills for effectively presenting technical data and strategies.
- Typically, a bachelor’s degree with 15+ years of relevant industry experience, including at least 9 years in a managerial or leadership role.
Compensation & benefits
This role offers a salary range of $220,000 to $250,000, depending on experience. Compensation details will be shared during the process.
